Introduction

Domaine Direct's wine list is devoted to wines of superior character and ageworthiness. Our love of world class Chardonnay from Burgundy led us to seek out a comparable example of this versatile grape type from the Southern Hemisphere. We were drawn to Margaret River, home of the Western Australian superstar, Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay.

Established in 1974, Leeuwin Estate is numbered amongst the finest domaines in the world and has achieved a remarkable reputation for quality. Exceptional grapes allied to outstanding winemaking skills (broadly following the French style of handling) produce high quality varietal wines which have become world-class ambassadors for Western Australia and have the rare distinction of being truly ageworthy.

What makes Leeuwin wines so special is their concentration, their multi-layered complexity and their longevity. The keystones of this remarkable quality are the region, Margaret River, and the vineyard sites which delivery up consistently fine raw materials - Leeuwin Estate's top cuvées are an authentic expression of an exceptional microclimate and vineyard. Art Series labels - featuring original and eye-catching work by prominent contemporary Australian painters - designate the estate's premium releases selected from the very best vineyard blocks.

Internationally renowned for its Art Series Chardonnay, Leeuwin Estate has established a rapidly growing reputation for its finely-crafted Cabernet and brilliant Riesling. Like its Bordeaux Châteaux counterparts, Leeuwin also produces a "second label" wine, the simpler but still sensational Prelude Vineyards bottlings of Chardonnay and Cabernet Merlot, devoted to earlier-drinking, fruit-driven wines at lower prices, providing an excellent introduction to the wines of Australia's premier winery.

The wines of Leeuwin Estate have received much international attention and critical acclaim. They have been awarded numerous medals, including Gold in the prestigious Wine Magazine International Challenge. Decanter magazine has given its highest recommendation to many of Leeuwin's wines, and Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate has on numerous occasions awarded these wines 90 points and above.

At Leeuwin Estate, the art of fine wine is closely associated with the pleasures of good food, art and music.
