Domaine de Rochemure
Philippe Vermorel, thoughtful, unassuming, is a rising star in France but not yet well-known in the UK for his characterful, fine quality and very fairly-priced offerings.
The is always a wide quality gulf between simple Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages as exemplified by Philippe’s fine example. Great concentration, gourmand, structured but with fine tannins. Grapes destemmed and old vines, rendering modest yields. Strong aromas of violet, spices, elderflower and red fruits. A fleshy palate, round and rich, with fine velvety tannins makes for an immensely drinkable offering.
