Domaine Nicholas Maillet
Dominique Lafon was the first to recommend this Mâconnais domaine to us and we have become hugely enthusiastic fans of Maillet’s range of pure, bright, energy-charged white wines, which offer complexity and texture without heaviness. A broad but at the same time weightless Mâcon Igé from clay-rich soils is ranged alongside a lifted, floral Mâcon-Verzé and a special 80-year-old-vine Chemin Blanc bottling of Verzé which is fuller and richer, with incredible concentration and citrusy acidity. Maillet runs a thoroughly classy winery, epitomising the advances made by smart domaines in this region.
