An operation staunchly defending viticultural `best practice` - low yields, old vines, high natural ripeness, manual harvesting - in a region increasingly dominated by vineyard mechanisation and industrially-minded cooperatives. A spotless cellar, high equipment specification and overriding focus on grape quality help deliver enviable year-to-year consistency. The Cuvee Speciale is a 20% oak/80% tank blend; the Vieilles Vignes is fermented and raised exclusively in Allier/Troncais oak. Since the 1998 vintage, bottles show the new AOC Vire-Clesse which has replaced the former Macon-Vire appellation name, imposing stricter production norms. André’s success-story and traditions are being perfectly maintained by his daughter, son-in-law and grandson Aurélien.
The domaine is currently in conversion to organic status under the umbrella of the Ecocert organisation.
