Successive generations have built the reputation of this landmark Chassagne operation with holdings split evenly between red and white vineyard land and equal distinction achieved in both colours. A generation ago it was Albert Morey who divided his domaine between sons Bernard and Jean-Marc. Since then, Bernard has doubled acreage through purchases and further added to production with a mini-négociant arm dealing in fine whites. In 2007 Bernard followed Albert’s example by sharing the domaine out between his two sons Vincent and Thomas. From the 2007 vintage there will be two separate winemaking signature with most of the domaine’s appellations present under each. Parcels too small to divide have gone one way or the other: Les Caillerets, to Vincent; Vide Bourse to Thomas. Bernard and Thomas will continue to run the négoce business jointly under the Bernard Morey name. The Morey tradition of good family relations but professional independence within looks set to continue.
