Local fire chief and Harley-Davidson fancier, Vincent Geantet is above all a terrific winemaker, producing Gevrey which combines raw energy with aromatic precision. His prime concern is to keep his Pinot Noir fruit brilliantly fresh and the purple-stained colours and razor-sharp aromas of his newly finished wines testify to their complete lack of oxidation. To this end, he practises long cold maceration and vigorous extraction, uses predominantly new oak, handles the wine minimally during elevage and bottles without filtration. An outstanding value, each year, is his Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from 65-year old vines on the appellation`s northern Brochon slope. Just like others in the village, he has extended his reach north and south beyond Gevrey, adding a velvety Marsannay and intensely perfumed Chambolle-Musigny to his line-up of Gevrey crus.
