A superb source of finely-wrought, ageworthy, initially austere young white Burgundies develop brilliantly in bottle for over a decade, preserving miraculous freshness, refining marine, mineral, herb and truffle tertiary aromas. Late-picked, mostly old vines provide sugar-rich grapes with notably firm acids; a very cold cellar slows down élevage: whites are normally bottled 21 months after harvest, remaining unracked on their original lees throughout maturation. Meursault Limozin, Meursault 1er cru Perrières and Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru Morgeot exemplify the domaine’s virtues: pure, tightly constructed Chardonnay capturing and magnifying terroir nuance. Equally fine cuvées of Meursault Chevalieres and 1er cru Charmes are accessible earlier. Three reds – a communal Chassagne AOC, Beaune 1er cru Bressandes and ambrosial Pinot Noir Meursault Clos des Mouches – all generally bottled at 18 months, offer comparable flavour intensity.
