Domaine Tollot-Beaut

This domaine-bottling pioneer, with extensive Pinot Noir holdings across Beaune, Chorey, Savigny and Aloxe-Corton, has a formidable reputation for consistency built on meticulous viticulture and cellarwork. Recent vintages possess additional weight and grip, especially at the lower end of the range where a chewy, pippy Chorey-lès-Beaune and silky Savigny Lavières set the pace in their respective appellations. Further up the scale, a brilliant Beaune Clos du Roi from a vineyard entirely replanted in the 1980s, mixes raw energy and refined textures, offering stiff competition to the rose-scented, ultra smooth Beaune Grèves. After years of offering a single composite cuvée of Aloxe-Corton, the domaine now splits out the components and bottles them separately. In this case the parts – including a notable Aloxe-Corton Fournieres – are definitely better than their sum.
