Domaine de l’Abbaye du Petit Epineuil, Dominique Gruhier

Far and away the most dynamic domaine of the small appellation of Bourgogne Epineuil, in its relatively isolated and unknown location north-east of Chablis, owner winemaker Dominique Gruhier has made a speciality of various cuvées of Bourgogne Pinot Noir that rival the quality of better known names further south in the Côte d’Or. They are wines with fruit and elegance that blossom after 5 to 7 years – from very steep (40% gradient), south-east-facing vines on stony soil, their signature cuvée Bourgogne Epineuil Côte de Grisey offers remarkable freshness, velvety texture and intense mouth perfume. Gruhier’s wines show classic minerality but at the same time are ‘très gourmand’ with their winning combination of freshness and purity of fruit.
