Domaine Jean & Gilles Lafouge
Auxey is on the way up – think of it as the ‘new’ Saint-Aubin. Rising temperatures mean the grapes here no longer struggle to ripen and Gilles Lafouge’s range consists of beautifully crafted, un-showy but thoroughly satisfying red and white Burgundies.
The Les Hautés borders Meursault Vireuils and the Boutonniers sits right next door to Meix Chavaux – the former offering a floral, fluid style compared to the more focused Boutonniers.
The reds have that hugely attractive sweet core of fruit, fine tannins, freshness and vinous poise.
